Question about starter pitching temps for lagers. Do you chill your starter to the the same temp as the wort will be when pitching? So if you chill the wort to 50F, do you also prechill your starter to the same temp?

thanks

My starters are usually crashed and decanted before pitching. So for a lager I will just pitch to the fermenter from the starter in the fridge. I pitch at 44° and let it rise itself to 48°-50°. All my lagers have been 3 gallons batches with a 2L starter.

Lager or Ale, it's always a good idea to match the pitch to the wort temperature.

Like most living things one can imagine yeast are not favorable to thermal shock...

Cheers! ;)
