I made 8 gallons of a barleywine on 10/27/09 with an O.G. of 1.095. I have a 10 liter oak barrel that I plan to use to age a portion of the batch with the rest to be aged in a glass carboy for several months.

Once the batch finishes fermenting, is that the right time to transfer to the oak barrel? Should I age it in a 3 gallon glass carboy for a few months first? Or should I leave it in the primary longer? This is my first time using an oak barrel and I'd like some advice on when to transfer over. Thanks.

Based on club experiences, transfer it as soon as it has cleared, stash it somewhere and don't mess with it.
