So I am (hopefully) making some Root Beer tomorrow and I want someone to double check my ideas.

Ingredients I have

  • 4 oz. bottle of Bakto Root Beer flavor
1 packet of Red Star Pasteur Champagne yeast
    5 gallons of filtered water
    Spices
    Sugar

Equipment

  • Sanitized plastic bottles
    Large cooler with a spout
    Large pot

So basically the plan is to boil half the water with my spices , a bit of cinnamon most likely and possibly a few others I haven't quite decided yet. Put the other half of the water in the cooler at room temperature. Let the boiled water cool for a few then stir in the sugar and Root Beer flavor. Dump the sugar water in the cooler, check the temp to make sure its right then add the yeast and mix. After that I figure it will be easier to bottle out of the spout on the cooler than pitchers and a funnel.
I'm just not sure though how much sugar I need or extract. The reason I'm doing 5 gallons is partially because I've heard its about the right amount for 1 packet of yeast, plus I have several people that want some.
