Picked up some sweet gale(myrica gale) at the LHBS and was wondering how much is appropriate and when should it be added to the boil. I am brewing a Belgian Wit and thought the sweet gale would add something a little different from the commercial ones that I normally drink. I am also using coriander and sweet orange peel in the recipe also. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

As to a Belgian wit... I dunno.

Sweet gale is fairly bitter and I have used it in place of hops in an heather ale. If I recall correctly I used about 5 g at 60 minutes. It is one of the major herbs used in the traditional pre-hops mixture known as gruit.
