I've looked on the forums here but haven't seen this addressed. My beer has been in primary for a few days bubbling away happily. Looking at it, I can see particles in the beer rising up, down, and all around in a convection current. The fermentor is room temperature at 65 degrees with a towel wrapped around it as an insulator.

Is this convection current normal? I'm merely curious, not concerned.

Very normal. fermentation is an exothermic reaction (heat is produced).

some fermentations are quite violent: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Emv_8K-9r9Q]YouTube - A Vigorous Ferment[/ame] (random youtube video of a carboy fermenting actively)
