so it appears fermentation on a german lagr I brewed last sunday has slowed so I turned the fridge off for the weekend since I am leaving town. (I have no temp regulation, just on n off on my fridge. I didn't read enough on lagers before trying this). I will be back on Monday, is this too long for a diacetyl rest?
If so what repercussions will there be?

My fridge, on its warmest setting is 40dF, when its off my basement temp is between 65 and 70.

Thanks for any advice!

To simplify that: is it going to be better to leave my lager that's 6 days into fermentation in the 40dF fridge or the 68dF room temp for 3 days?

I'd be surprise if it fermented out at 40 degrees! That's too cold for most lager yeast strains. If it did ferment, I doubt it'd be done in 6 days at the temperature. In any case, if the SG is 1.020 or less, it'd be fine to do a diacetyl rest now. 48 hours or so is a fine length of time.

Sorry I should elaborate.. due to my lack of temp control I have been turning the fridge on and off ALL week lol...>_<. So the beer itsself was between 45 and 55 this week.
