I recently made my fourth batch of beer which was a Bock.

The recipe was just DME and hops basically. I followed the directions to the T and all seemed as if it was going great. About 3 days later during the fermentation process, I looked at it and found that a thick foam like substance had formed and came through the air lock, and was all over my bucket. I took the top of, and used a sanitized spoon to scoop out the excess foam. I resealed it and continued the process.

Has anyone every experienced something like this? And or does anyone know why this happened?

Ok. Thanks. I was freaked out and thought I created some creature. It almost got shot. Next time, if that happens should i remove the airlock and clean it, then replace it with new water, or just dont touch it at all?
