Trying to understand ABV calcs

I thought this was the formula: (OG - FG)*105

But, there's a calculator online that comes up with a different ABV.

OG = 1.075
FG = 1.022

I came up with: 5.565 %

Then I plugged the numbers in here, and it came up with 7.4%

Most of us on here use....og-fg * 131

I've never seen 105 as the number you multiply by.

My mistake, *105 is for ABW. I don't know the difference between ABW and ABV. Looks like I have something to lookup.

I just compared the *131 method to that site I referenced, and it's .5% off still. I wonder what they're doing differently. I've searched for other online calculators and they seem to be coming up with results using *131. Thanks.

I found another method in 'The Joy of Home Brewing'. Multiple ABW by 1.25 to get ABV. Looks like that comes out the same to the tenth. 6.943 vs 6.95625.
