Pitching spices into secondary for pumpkin ale

I'm about to start on a pumpkin ale, I don't have nutmeg or mace right now. Can I just pitch them into the secodary a week from now instead of boilin them to prevent a trip to the store?
 
Secondary is usually where I use all of my spices. I make a spice tea and it allows me to add it gradually and adjust to my taste.
