just got set up with CO2 and a carb cap, I used it on a bottle of home made root beer, worked pretty good, but now there is root beer in the Co2 hose, does this happen all the time, or did i do something wrong?

there is a check valve on the regulator.

Thanks Barkman

The check valve will protect the regulator, but it sounds like the soda was at higher pressure than the regulator so you got some back flow. As long as it doesn't go into the regulator, the regulator is safe.
