O.K., I've looked and searched, but I can't find the thread where someone cut the compressor out of their refrigerator, made the mods and soldered it back in without clearing the system, pulling a vac., etc. Can someone point me in the right direction. Thanks - Dwain

Really, though, the system should be evacuated before refilling, pulled down into a vacuum, then filled with the proper refrigerant.

If you retrofitted the service tubes that are usually just pinched/soldered tube ends with standard r134A automotive service ports, you could just take it down to your favorite auto shop and have them do an A/C service on it. That's assuming your fridge runs 134a.

I just looked at the old fridge I use and it's r12, which is $$$$$ now, so it'd be scrap(at least for me) if it was damaged.
