Good deal.

My last came out very close.

I think it needs the 15 min addition though.

The 30 min is much more debatable.

Was just there and noticed they substituted the 15 min and WP of Chinook for Amarillo on their latest batch. Interested to see how that comes out. Such a great IPA.

Interesting...

I just brewed it again too.

Stuck with the scaled recipe except I did a .50 ounce FWH instead of .25.

6 gallon receipe

Kegged mine the other day and the flat, warm, not yet dryhopped sample tasted promising. Pulling dryhops today and putting it on the gas. Will update in another week or two. I think this one is going to be pretty darn close to the original.

Sounds like we are neck & neck...

I did 2 oz of Centennial, .50 oz of chinook & .50 oz of cascade for 7 days.

Added another 2 oz of centennial to the keg.

It's still carbonating..

Wish someone had a picture of the One Claw recipe. I'd love to brew a clone of it.

10% rye and a lot of late Nelson Sauvin...

I may be able to get something next time out..

One Claw:

OG: 12.8 Plato
IBU: 20

2-Row 77%
Rye 10%
Munich 6.5%
Wheat 6.5%
Chinook 60 min 6% of hops addition
Citra 15 min 31% of hops addition
Citra WP 42% of hops addition
Nelson WP 21% of hops addition
Nelson Dry Hop 11 lbs per 60 bbl for 7 days (about .1 oz per gallon, if my math is right)
Citra Dry Hop 22 lbs per 60 bbl for 7 days (about .2 oz per gallon, if my math is right)

Ferment 68*
Mash temp 154*

I doubt the 20 IBU is measured - they are likely not including the isomerization of their WP hops in their IBU number. For some reason brewing software doesn't think end of boil additions contribute any bitterness...

That's the recipe from brewery. Trust me I was surprised by the IBU too.

Do you recall the weight of the hop additions?

Sorry, I know I kinda half assed the recipe. Weight for kettle hops are:

1.5 lbs Chinook 60 min
8 lbs Citra 15 min
11 lbs Citra WP
5.5 lbs Nelson WP

Have read, and would assume, kettle hops are for a 30 bbl boil. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, please.

So:
.025 oz of Chinook per final boil size
.135 oz of Citra per final boil size
.186 oz of Citra (WP) per final boil size
.093 oz of Nelson (WP) per final boil size

Please correct my math if it's incorrect.

Would make sense. They use 60 and 120 bbl fermenter.

Will key this in and see how it shakes out as far as total ibu.

Thanks for the info!

22.4 IBU without the whirlpool additions so I guess 20 IBU is about right...

I guess that means that the 65 IBU on their IPA could be calculated the same.

Did you adjust/tweak hop weight in recipe? Because the numbers I came up with for hops per gallon multiplied by your boil size are a little higher than your recipe hop weights. I know that would raise IBUs too and get it too bitter.

basically divided the addition by the batch size in ounces & multiplied by 5.5. They may be rounded some...

Lb (converted to ounces) /1860 (60x31) * 5.5

You're right my apologies. I got mixed up using boil size rather than batch size.

Just had a Westbrook IPA tonight and am assuming the new 15 min and WP additions of Amarillo were in it and it tasted awesome. I really love Amarillo and I think it pairs nicely with Cascade.

This is the closest I have ever gotten. It is dead on... Required a double dry hop to provide the volume of aroma but it is finally there. I had to much liquid to start so had to boil for an additional 5 minutes. Mash temp & duration is because of my HERMS. If doing a normal rest in a cooler, 60 min @ 150 degrees is fine..

Bumped the FWH to.50 oz. CTZ only.

Dry hop was changed to 2 oz Cent, .50 oz cascade, .50 oz Chinook for 7 days. Followed by another 2 oz of Cent in keg.

They are pulling more aroma from their WP process than I ever could ...

Mine is a tad more bitter but that was due to the extra 5 min on the boil.

No Amarillo as discussed above?

Also, 2 hour FWH??

The Amarillo is definitely new this year or at the end of last year. I remember when I first had this beer it had great pine and citrus aroma and flavor, probably from Chinook instead of Amarillo at 15 and WP. It depends on what you'd like to go for flavor and taste wise. Chinook or Amarillo additions along with Cascade at 15 and WP will produce a great beer.

No. They have only added Amarillo recently.

As for the FWH, I just made a note of how long it was in prior to the boil. Through the sparge, etc...

Not sure if that had a huge impact or not.

My latest version of this has zero aroma. I must have done something wrong. I think the flavor is right on though. Need to do side by side still.

I had to double dry hop it to get it close to the original. The hops they use are probably much fresher than what we have access to.

I usually get good aroma from 3oz. I had a co2 leak in the keg so maybe that has something to do with it.

I've often wondered how this IPA would be if fermented a tad dryer without a FWH & 30 minute addition.

I plan on doing that next.

Lowering the gravity a tad & mashing dryer @ 148. Shooting for 1.058/1.010.

Same grist
