So I have a stand up freezer out in my shed which I plan on converting to a fermentation chamber. What do you recommend as the best method of heat in order to keep it around 68 degrees now that we are into winter? Some sort of light bulb in the chamber, brew belt, etc?

I am in NC where winters are mild but can get fairly cold sometimes (around freezing or so, but not much under).

I use an ebay controller and a lamp. My FC is in my garage and my winters are probably milder than yours, so the light doesn't come on very often, but it gives me peace of mind.:D

Pet stores sell ceramic heaters for reptile tanks (no light) in various wattages or you could go the FermWrap route....you can buy the stuff by the foot at - The Bean Farm and make your own with an old extension cord and soldering iron.

Would a brew belt work or would this possibly crack the carboy in cold weather?
