my uncle has homebrewed since early 90's. i visited them about 7 years ago, he brewed a beer, I watched along, but it was all so foreign as I wasn't a home brewer yet. I've done it now for 1.5 years, and just visited again this weekend, so I got to see it all again and really understand it all, and take pics:)

here's a quick view into the basement that reeks of envy, located in the home my aunt and uncle in southwest Denver. I present, Redpenny Brewery and sports bar.
The brewery:
Open the door, chest freezer used for over flow and cold crashing new brews.

To your right, counter top and grain storage

to your left, sink, etc. white hexagon is a filter.

Along the left wall, the tippy brew stand. He got it from morebeer.com, http://morebeer.com/search/103470 and http://morebeer.com/view_product/10776/103722/14_Gallon_Conical_Fermenter_-_Heated_and_Cooled. His is the 10 gal. 304 ss tippy, and 14 gal. fermentor. He got it about 10 years ago, so they models have changed slightly, but you can see what kind of price point this kind of gear is in.

close up of thermo-electrically cooled fermentor, capable of 30 deg. below ambient, so he can lager. Fermentor only cools, not heats (new models do both), so on the floor next to it is a radiator for the winter, in case it gets too cold. (Heater isn't in pic above. It's an older pic that he had, it was better than all the angles I took so I used it. Since it's an older pic, the heater isn't there yet.)

In between tippy and fermentor, his CFC, and a place to put his oxygenator. Hose and sink are just 3' away, behind me, you see in other pics.

Close up, sparge arm, mash tun, butterfly clamps. Boil kettle is at bottom of this pic (on the middle of the tiers). His HLT is on very bottom, underneath MT.

Close up, parts of his oxygenator there below those chemicals.

close up, all hoses for HERMS system.

and open that door next to the hoses, voila, the walk in cooler, kept at about 38 degrees.

On the left, what's on tap

he does 10 gals, so the back ups of whats on tap are on the right, carbed an ready. Both sets of kegs are in custom SS roller racks.

other side of those taps

zoomed out from those taps, you can see the window next to cues, that is window next to fermentor

and another view of rest of bar
in the pic, top shelf is all tequila. cheapest bottle is patron anejo.
bottom left, all vodka. couple straight from russia, all russian labels. middle bottom, all single malts. bottom right, rums.
everything else is under the bar. probably 50-60 bottles under there, oh yeh, they stocked that bar in two trips

also, there's a foosball table, a bumper pool/poker table, and a home theater. In the brewery itself, he's got his internet line, and speakers (speakers are all throughout the basement), that tap into movie rooms satellite radio/cd/dvd player. There's a little flat screen on the left of his counter top so you can pop in a live music dvd, crank the speakers and brew away.

all in a walk out basement.

wow now all i need to do is get married, buy a house with a basement, acquire the rest of the equipment and i'll be just like your uncle. but for real that is amazing.

Wow, your uncle rocks. I'd figure out what he does for a living and do that!!!

she's in corporate tax for sports authority, he's an engineer, worked for ball aerospace up until just recently.

they each have 2 bs's and a masters (so 6 degrees total).

Oh yeh, and quite possibly the main reason they can afford it?

no kids.

they finished the basement about 10 years, just when they turned 40.

oh yeh forgot to mention. they are thinking of selling the place in a couple years. they have two condos in vail and want to retire there. well, his dream would be to sell it to a friend or family, so he could keep it as is, and come brew whenever he wants.

well, wife and i are tired of texas and want to move. The idea is hands down definite, but timeline is about 2 years and location a bit undecided as well. We checked out longmont this trip, great little town. but then i thought, wait a minute.......

this house is in our budget:):):):):):)

I'd say your uncle put his Engineering Degrees to work for sure. That is just plain AWESOME!! :rockin:

And who wouldn't want to buy a house with a brewery & bar like that. Well I guess I could name a few, like my wife, but you know... Cheers!!!

Best brew porn ever!

As far as home breweries/bars are concerned, I don't think this can be beat.

That is the most awesome thing I've seen all month!

Worst thing was a beaver dam in front of water covert, flooding my dad's cabin's driveway... I wanted to see if hotdogs and a broom stick could fix it but we didn't want bears near the truck... Steven's Point Pale Ale made us feel better though....

well, he has about 8 medals from the big beer festival in vail and the national homebrewers competition! Needless to say, they were all very tasty!

I'm sure they were. If he cares enough to put that room together, I have no doubt he takes great care to make sure his beer turns out as good as it can.

OT, but ya, what curly said. I've got some type of stomach bug and feel like crap and am still laughing my ass off at this. I keep rereading it and laughing harder each time. Too much.

Freakin sweet setup your uncle has. I'd really like to see more of that brewstand setup if you happen to have/get any more pics.

+10 to What KC said... I can only imagine someone heading off to fix a problem with a hotdog in one hand and a broom in the other (leaving everyone else in the house scratching their heads)... Talk about topping MacGuyver!

Back to the point of the thread...
That is indeed one sweet setup, that's similar to what I envisioned my "Man Cave" being (though that is much much nicer), except I envision mine with a lazy boy (next to the taps) and a 60" TV.

Well done sir. To your uncle :mug:

That is just amazing. Definitely something to shoot for. Geez.

I just keep coming back to this thread. I mean, I thought brewing had really changed my house. But now it's just some crappy things in my garage that somehow produce beer. I just can't get over this. I know I'm gushing like a teen girl at a picture of Justin Beeber, but this is freakin' epic.

EPIC

I now need a new keyboard after making a mess of this one. That is awesome.:tank:

You guys aren't gonna believe this, but my wife saw those pictures and told me to put our house on the market to buy something bigger. She said I'm free to do all of that to part of the house, and buy all of the equipment needed to upgrade my brewery. This is gonna be great. She's so loving, my sweet wife.
