I'm curious, does anyone know if there's any risk of leaching metals from a stainless steel pot if I use one of my stainless steel pots to treat my water's alkalinity with slaked lime? AJ? Martin? I don't taste any metal in the water, but it could obviously be below some threshold.

High pH does not leach metals. It causes metals to precipitate. If you had a very acidic solution, then you might worry. Acidic solutions are less of a concern with stainless, but aluminum and copper can be severely eroded by acidic solutions.

OK, cool, thanks. I have an odd, almost metallic, off flavor in a recent beer, so I figured I'd ask. I'm thinking it's possible that it's oxidation, however.
