I decided to practice my kneading skills prior to trying out some of my homemade sourdough starter (It's too young right now). It's a mexican anise seed bread from a sourdough website. It is not made with sourdough, but instant yeast.

I thought it turned out great. My wife got the idea to put honey butter on it and that made it even better.

I cheated and used this guys tutorial of sorts and recipe. I'm a complete newb to baking, so that is how I find justification.;)

I "simulated" a brick oven using saltillo tiles in the oven. Not exactly the same thing, but hopefully lands me somewhere in the ball park. If I really end up enjoying this hobby, I will probably build an outdoor firebrick oven at the new house. I really like the idea of doing what's in your avatar.
