Mineral Filters

I recently replaced my faucet water filter unit and I noticed that they seem to be pushing these new mineral filters. Basically the same filtration as before but supposedly runs the water over minerals to improve the taste. the unit I bought came with one but I've already tested to make sure it supports my old filters too. I can find no documentation as to what these supposed minerals are. Does anybody know or recommend this for brewing certain styles? It definitely tastes different than my old filter but I'm not sure I prefer it.
