About 3 years ago I was snowboarding w/ my daughter @ night on Mt.Shasta. All was well until I hit a 15 footer and landed wrong, dislocating and ripping my shoulder all to hell, spent a few hours in the ER with a 320# Samoan guy reefing on my arm trying to get the damn thing back in the socket. Well long story short I am having it opened up and fixed on the 20th in Sacramento. This isn’t my first rodeo though; I had the other one fixed about 7 years ago from a wakeboarding accident (360 tantrum to blind :rockin:) 5 years prior, I had over 100 dislocations on that one. I am only sitting on about 30 dislocations on this one.

FK I am getting OLD:mad: WTF!!! Why can't we all (brewers and fun makers) just stay young to supply the rest of the world with a big helping of "good times"

Anyway…wish me luck I will be out of work for 8-12 weeks (finally a vacation :cross:) so I might be hanging here even more than I do now.

Cheers
JJ

Well congrats on trying to stay young even if your joints do not approve! We shall see some more of you around here then I would imagine.

I have never, in all my years, dislocated anything. How in the nine hells have you dislocated your arms a collective 130 times??

I have never in my years dislocated anything or had anything surgically cut open.
I've broke my nose and fractured an arm and had a couple of deepish cuts but that's it.

I've never had a broken bone, let alone surgery, until I got a 2 year olds ball back from a group of preteen boys. I was at a friends house in the city, helping him move- Cement edger to head, blow from fat kid to left cheek. Ambulance ride, 9 stitches in head, then surgery a few weeks later to put three plates in my cheek (high point of cheekbone has bone on each side and down, fractures on each). Some ladies seem to really like my half smile though, but always hurts (especially this time of the year).

Hats off to you ,I still can't imagine all that damage.. Hope it goes well and you have an enjoyable recovery! Hope to see you posting some new brews ;-)

I've had my share of small things, but nothing even compares to 130 dislocations.

I've had about 3-4 hamstring pulls, nearly tore all the legiments in my ankle (extremely hyperextended) misaligned vertabrae, and calcium deposits in my knees. All of which are sports related injuries, however I can still compete. Nothing nearly as drastic as 130 dislocations :tank:

Just to be sure, did you get jumped by a bunch of preteen boys? With cement finishing tools? That's f'd up.

Geesh, lot of people walking around in protective bubbles here. I've had eight surgeries of various sorts. I have a 4-inch titanium screw holding my left elbow together, plates in each ankle, 6-inch scar on my lower back, lovely hernia scar, etc., etc.

Never messed up a shoulder, though. Good luck with that Jay.

Well both injuries started out pretty much the same, a single dislocation and a trip to the ER, with some guy yanken like hell to get it back in. Then after the pain would go away I would be back at it again on the boards (I was obsessed). See I wanted to be a professional wakeboarder (you gotta dream) and I wouldn't get off the damn board. Every time I hit the water I would be working on landing some sick trick and well the shoulder would just pop out if I fell wrong (I fell wrong LOTS) I got to a point with my right shoulder it was a weekly occurrence just doing stupid $#!t like throwing a rock or playing w/ my daughter out it would go. So after about 5 years of dealing with the pain I decided to go see a specialist and have it repaired. I (Knock on wood) haven’t had another dislocation since the repair (6 screws in the right shoulder).
My left shoulder doesn’t go back in quite as easy. But it sure does come out easy. I woke up camping lying on my back with both my hands behind my back and a dislocated shoulder. Talk about a rude awakening, it took me 30 minuets to get it back in so I could move. I told my SWMBO its tome to call Dr Webber and get it done. Hell if you can't even sleep without a trauma....It's time.
Thanks for all the encouragement, I am looking forward to some time away from work.
Cheers
JJ

Good luck. From what you've said so far I don't think you'll have any trouble keeping up the physical therapy afterwards. That's key in these things. I had both shoulders scoped and the PT after got it strong again. Knock on wood but haven't broken anything although my parents always scoped out the quickest route to the ER each time we moved. :D

Labrum or rotator cuff, or both?

I've never had a problem, but my ex SWMBO's shoulder would dislocate with minor contact (we played soccer in a rec league) or even sometimes randomly when she was washing her hair or something. Had surgery, it was the labrum that got repaired.

Ligament damage. The repair is called an "Open Bankheart repair" They open you up and screw down all the torn crap.
Ya, mine would come out doing even the most random stuff like sitting up or reaching for a beer glass (we cant have that :D)

That's a hell of a way to get some vacation time... Hope it all goes well bro!
Well ya know vacation is vacation any way you look at it. I am just thinking of all the brewing and ummm DRINKING I get to do.:D
I may have to get some help in the brewing department, lifting and such but I do have on hand 7 full kegs and 12 gallons fermenting. It should hold me for a few weeks anyway.
Cheers

Yea, me and my buddy were watching them from corner (caddy corner) because they were screwing with that persons stuff, one snuck over to the adjacent corner with a flying cement edger... followed by a 15 foot dash/fist to the cheek. At least, I think that's what caused my three fractures- I walked back to buddies house since they all took of, wife/friends there freaked out and told me to lay down- supposedly I blacked out for about 15 minutes and my buddy was slapping that cheek to try and wake me up (not that I remember it). Oxygen tubes in the nose are freaking annoying! I did have all of the EMTs cracking up laughing by the time I got to the hospital though :)

HOLY Hell I must have missed this post. Preteens? are you talken like 12 year olds? That is FKed up!!! I think a little a$$baggen for the parents would be in order!
Damn bro, mine is gonna be a cake walk in comparison.
How long ago was that?

I am thinking of doing a 90 or 120 min IIPA while I am down. Just ordered the Simcoe hops yesterday.

getting old sux putrid bong water...

No, I believe you're thinking of "leaning back too far". That, technically, sucks bong water. Unless it happens that you are not hitting a bong. Then .. um, you are not liable to suck bong water at all. ;) (And for that matter, if your water is putrid, you should change it more often!)

As for them dislocations. Wow, man. So far I've broken a wrist, a few toes, gotten stitches a couple times (one was a broken window, one was a dog attack)..... but I've never gone through anything that painful. I can't even imagine. And that's comin' from the young "old fart" whose leg keeps going numb every day, and who gets a supermigraine when he coughs.

2 years ago? About? I suck with dates and such (probably more so as I get older). They were probably ranging 12-15ish, and their would be some a$$baggen, as well as juvie hall etc, if cops would have arrived in a timely manner. That not being the case, with the way parts of Lancaster city (PA) are now, they are probably on the streets with guns. Got to love it.

Sad thing is, this was about a block from where my grandparents lived for over 50 years, and my dad grew up. Next morning I called my dad just to tell him what happened- he was speechless. Finally commented something along the lines of- Sorry to hear that happened; You did the right thing. Man that neighborhood has really gone to $h!t.

I think worst part was waking up from the surgery- they said I could leave my boxers on, so I did. Wake up in the recovery room to realize I am bare arsed, and then find my boxers in a bio hazard bag next to me....

As of Thursday afternoon, I am the proud owner of a titanium plate and 10+ screws holding my right wrist in place... Apfelwein + stairs + socks = bad joojoo...

Good luck
:mug:
