When I brew my first batch, is stirring the cooled wort for a few minutes enough to areate it adequately? The palmer book simply says to pour the cooled wort aggresivley into the bucket.

My LHBS sells "stirring sticks" which looks like a lot like propellers so I think stirring should work quite well.

Probably not adequately enough, you might use a whisk though as it will work better. Also if you are adding water to an extract batch it may contain a fair amount of O2 unless it was boiled.
