Is zinc plated steel safe?

Trying to order quick disconnects from Mcmaster Carr, and I need a 3/8FPT coolant plug (#6739K58). All they have is zinc plated steel, will this work for my HLT? All the rest of the disconnects will be brass.

Use the male one 6739K57 and use a 3/8 to 3/8" coupling 50785K93 to turn the threads female.

Good call! Also I cannot find a way to connect my cfc, they don't have a male plug to 3/8id hose barb fitting. Any suggestions?

Yup... 3/8" compression fitting with female NPT on the other end. Lock that down on the CFC first, then thread in the MCmaster QD plug. If you really want the male QD on the hose, you can get a hose barb that has female NPT threads on it, into which the QD plug will thread.

To answer the original question - never use any steel (except stainless, of course) in contact with your wort.
