Specialty Grains - how to estimate percentage of grain bill?

When looking at specialty graibs, I can usually find recommended amounts to add as a percentage of the overall grain bill. When using extract rather than all-grain, is there any kid of easy way to estimate the amount of a specialty grain to use?
 
Its sort of the same..Extract is better modified then grains are so it is more "Potent" then grains pound for pound... Figure out what that is and treat the same as you would all grain.

So if 7 lbs of malt extract equals 10 pounds of grain ( Just a guess.. look it up) then use the corresponding grain poundage as your reference for you recipe for your speciality grain additions... There is a tad bit of specialty malts already in some extract so consider that as well.

No!

You have to figure out how much grain was in the original recipe and then figure out the amount of specialty grain.

Personally I don't like the use of percentages for specialty grains and simple sugars unless it also comes with a mash efficiency. Simple sugars are used 100%, and specialty grains are already converted so should not be part of the efficiency calculation. If mash efficiency is 60% vs 80%, the amount of specialist grains could be vastly different in a recipe and give a very different beer.

The first step is to try and figure out what the original recipe intended. If you can't determine what the amounts if the specialty grains are, then research similar beers/recipes.
