So I should have posted this a while ago but I forgot about it and just noticed the link in my bookmarks.

vectormagic.com

This is a site that was created for a senior project or something like that. Anyway, it creates a vector image automatically from any image file format. This is really handy for those of us who are not graphic designers. Check out this label I just did....

this is my original, graining picture not so hot....

and this is the automatically created vector format. I think it looks pretty sweet and crisp! The site is free for pnc file downloads and you can pay for other higher res image types.

I think it is a cool site you may want to check out. :mug:

It does look that way but these are in vector format... which is different, basically it is a true digital image that can be changed to any scale without distortion. I just thought it was cool.

You just gave me a good topic to spend hours on wikipedia researching! Thanks!:mug:

That's a really good result for a free program. Vector auto-tracing was a really hard thing for software to do a just a couple years ago. I used to use Adobe Streamline (not supported anymore). Now I use the auto trace feature built into Illustrator CS2 - nothing compares. There are a couple other programs out there, but the example posted above is best result I have seen from a free program.

Truly, the LiveTrace feature in Illustrator opened a lot of doors for this type of application. i dont remember if this is the case with CS2...but in CS3 there are a LOT of LiveTrace options. you decide how tight, how many colors (which makes it easy to do purely black & white silhouette type stuff), and all that.

agreed though, this free program looks pretty good!!! nice link :mug:
