I'm doing a simple kit from Mr. Beer. It sounded like fun, Millienium Falconers Red. Well the fermentation had started nicely only a few hours after pitching at 70F.

I've only done like 25 batches but this is the first time I've seen yeast do this. Anyone else seen this before? I thought that it was quite beautiful.

Yes I have seen BAD yeast do this....NOT!..................Just kidding pretty cool

Wow. I've fermented with a lot of different yeasts over the years but I've never seen anything like that. I'm right on the edge of thinkn' I hav'ta call B.S. on that being fermenting beer...
It really is fascinating to look at though. What does it look like down in the carboy?

I can understand if you don't believe me it was certainly something weird I've never seen before. I will post a picture right after I pitched and a picture now. It has gone on to more of a normal ferment at this point. I'm glad I took pictures when I did. These really are from an active fermentation.

Actually I just noticed if you look in the photos I posted you can see the green sharpie Mil of the Millenium I wrote on the 4 gallon water jug I ferment in. I'll also post all the photos I took with the pattern.

In the center is a muslin sack with Falconers hops in it.

It's just a Safale US-05 Yeast.

Wow! Is there some kind of thickening agent in there? I would be worried about forgetting to rinse out soap or something.. I'm curious as to how it tastes.

I always ferment in glass these days and have never seen anything like that!

trip, i have used 05 many many times, and never seen that . Super cool

No soap at all. Clean fermenter as I just emptied the water out of that distilled 4 gal container. Sanitized with starsan only.

Only things other than starsan.

1 Imperial Red Seasonal Refill
2 Packets Falconer’s Flight Hops (1/2 oz.)
2 Muslin Hop Sack (Small)
1 Safale US-05 Yeast

Those 4 gallon plastic water jugs only get used once and then recycled. Clean fermenter each time. :)

Just to report back it came out tasting good. It's a decent basic recipe kit. The yeast must have just been super happy.
