I read somewhere that new Plastic should be treated with a baking soda and water solution before using, but can't seem to remember where.

Does any one know how much baking soda should be added to the water?

New Plastic has an odor that will transfer itself into the ingredients that one places in the container. Baking soda is supposed to eliminate that.

Wow. I never knew that. I rinsed out my plastic fermenter when I first got it, but that was just because of sanitation. Good to know. And you know what? My first batch was bad. Go Figure.

I've never even thought of doing that with food grade plastic. I buy plastic stuff all the time (tupperware and gladware and the like) and it never occurred to me at all. I just wash and use.
