Northern Brewers Nut Brown ale. Brewed on Saturday. Today is Wednesday. 4 full days in the primary. No kraussen on top. About an inch of yeast on the bottom. Smells just like beer. (my first brew)

I guess we all interpret things differently. I interpreted the original post as a concern rather than pride in his work! I thought he was concerned that his brew never had any visible krausen, only sediment on the bottom, and that it is only bubbling every 45 seconds.

In any case, I usually wait until airlock activity is a minute or more between (weak)bubbles. 7 days...10 days? I have left my brew in primary (my first batch ) for 14 days. On that one I missed the krausen; it fell to the bottom before I ever saw it.

We did have a kraussen for 2 full days. It is gone now. Bubbling at 30-45 seconds. This is my first batch. I am not planning a secondary. I will try to take hydrometer reading this weekend, but I'm not really keen on opening my carboy:eek:

Oh, I'd leave it for two weeks or so anyway before you open it. When you do, make sure your drink that hydrometer sample! It'll be beer!

Sounds about right.

Give it a few more days before taking a sample (1-2 minutes between bubbles) as Brewno suggests.

Without a secondary, I'd usually wait 2-3 weeks before bottling. Do a hydrometer reading after a week and then once when you bottle.

No worries though, it sounds like it's coming along just fine.
