Just wondering if anyone has successfully grown some yeast from Racer 5. It is bottle conditioned, I'm just not sure if it's the primary strain.. Couldn't find much about anyone trying this yet. Thanks.

Yes, I have grown a nice healthy starter from Racer 5. It seems quite similar to WLP001. I presume it is the primary strain. No independent information, just my hunch.

I just found this: Norgrove says Racer 5's success is due to consistency from batch to batch; use of American grains and "the three C's' - Cascade, Chinook and Columbus hops -- from Yakima Valley in Washington state, and fermentation using a house yeast strain that originated at Sierra Nevada Brewing Co. in Chico.

Rumor has it that WLP001 is a Sierra Nevada strain as well, so it fits.
