My ebay stir plate still throws the bar. Instead of the traditional vortex I put the side of my Erlenmeyer flask on the center of the fan and turned it on. It still threw the bar so I put a pencil under the corner of the flask to elevate one side and keep the bar over the magnet. It hops around all crazy but seems to agitate the yeast.

My question. Will this work for my starter until I get a better stir plate or fix my current one?

Please, if you have a stir plate and Erlenmeyer flask try what i described so you get a good picture of what is happening with the bar.

I just want my starters to be happy =)

This should still work. as long as your getting aggitation and some new air is being introduced in the process, it will still work.
