i made a 5 gal batch using a prehopped malt extract kit. its been fermenting for 7 days. i started with 1.042 and for the last 2 days its reading 1.009. but i still have some action in the airlock is it ready to bottle or do i wait until the airlock stops? also when priming the bottles how much dextrose do i use? ive heard any where from 1/2 cup per 5 gal. to 1 cup per 5 gal.

wait another 7 to 14 days. the yeast are still cleaning up after themselves. only bottle after the SG has been exactly the same for more than 3 days in a row.

average amount of corn sugar to use is 3/4 of a cup.

Welcome to HBT!

Your yeast has not finished its job yet. It does more than just ferment your beer, it cleans up off flavors too. Leave it for a couple more weeks, as TipsyDragon said, and your palette will thank you.
