Hello, I just recently started using a hydrometer and have a dumb question to ask. I've noticed when drawing my og sample after the boil I always get a decent amount of junk in my test jar, mostly hop particles I'm guessing. If I take my gravity reading while the stuff is still in suspension will it give me a false result? Once it settles to the bottom it shouldn't be able to tamper with the reading right? Or does it not matter either way? thanks for any info.

No...a hydrometer measures the amount of sugar in solution only. Gunk will not affect it. However in your pre bottling grav. readings where co2 is present the bubbles MAY lift the hydrometer up a bit. TO eliminate that, tapping the side of the test jar will help knock out the bubbles.

gunk stuck to the hydrometer will effect the reading, otherwise as Revvy said.
