I have very little time to brew these days and I'm looking for some info on making different types of beers from one mash. I've read a little about making a high-gravity and low-gravity beer, but I'm also interested in making two styles with similar gravities. Anyone have success with this? Anyone have a list of beers that can be made together?
As an example I was thinking of trying to make an Irish Red and Oatmeal stout.
- Setup a mash for 10 gallons of Irish Red, and a mini mash for the Oatmeal specialty grains
- Split the first runnings into two containers.
- Batch sparge and add to one container, which can start boiling.
- Add the mini-mash contents to the main mash.
- Batch sparge and add to the second container.
Would something like this work? Any info or opinions would be great. Thanks.
