Double pitching yeast???

Has anyone had much experience pitching yeast twice. Once after boiling hte wart then again later after primary fermentation has taken place. A new homebrewer in my area said he does this.
 
I always pitch when bottling if lagaring for more then 3 months because its needed. The original yeast are usually not able to initiate secondary fermentation (carbonation). otherwise there is no need. If fermentation stalls, raise temp and give the primary a quick mix...
