did a mountmellick stout kit today..... any one know why my gravity would be so low? original was supposed to be around 1.042. well at 80 degrees it was showing 1.010.......? isn't that way too low ???? i did add a half pound of choc malt and about a pound of toasted oats (mash) sigh.......... anyone? thank you.

My guess is that you measured the gravity after adding top-off water, and without stirring thoroughly. The gravity you measured was that of the top-off water, slightly affected by the wort underneath. The real gravity will be close to 1.042.
