I wanted to build a racking cane that can avoid the sediment from the bottom of the fermenter. This way i can easily rack my beer from the primary fermenter straight to a keg and keep the beer perfectly clear at the same time.
This is made with 1/2" CPVC pipe.

nice work.

Another thing that can get the same results is taking a regular racking cane and using it upside-down (so that the hooked part is in the fermenter).

Or use a regular racking cane the normal way but start just a couple inches below the surface and lower as the siphon progresses. That way if you use a really low flocculating yeast and have a really loose 5" yeast cake at the bottom(even after 6 weeks in primary) you don't pick that up.
