i think that there might be small leak in my bucket, not a big deal. but what i was wondering was that after the foam falls is it really bad to have a large surface area exposed to the air and should i move it over to the carboy where it will get the air contact. and to decide when to move it over the hydrometer should have the same reading 2 or 3 days in a row?

There is a cushion of co2 in your bucket (if your airlock bubbles EXCESS co2 is being released) but even when it's not bublling, that entire headspace is filled with co2, which is sitting on your beer protecting it from bad stuff.
