How do I guesstimate how large a cooler I will need for full boil 5 gallon batches? Is there a magic formula for X qt cooler per gallon wort size?

It depends on what your efficiency is, what is the highest OG brew you want to make, how thick you mash, whether you fly sparge or batch sparge, and probably a whole bunch of other factors.

Min 20 qt., max 48 to 52 qt. for 5 gallon batches IMO.
