I'm sure I'm not the first person to do this, but it was so easy I wanted to put it out there. I brewed a berliner weisse a couple of months ago and am planning on bottling soon and wanted to add some fresh yeast, so I inserted my racking cane into a carboy of a beer I brewed two days ago just far enough to get into the krausen. The other end of the hose went into a sanitized jar with some distilled water in it, covered with foil. The beer is in active fermentation and so lots of gas is being produced, so the yeast got picked up right away and in four or five minutes I had all I wanted. I may do this again to get yeast for pitching...
