I just made a 1 qt. starter with 1 cup of DME. But the yeast was a few months old, and I want to step it up a little bit just to be sure. My plan is to wait 1-2 days for the starter to ferment out, decant the spent wort, and pitch another quart of fresh wort right onto the yeast cake in my flask. Is this a good idea? FWIW...my beer will be a 1.060 IPA. Thanks!

Sounds easy enough...but why not just boil 2 quarts to start, rather than 1 quart to start, then another quart 2 days later?

You could do that too i guess. I dont remember why but when i do big beers i always do a 1 quart starter wait for it to ferment out then dmp another 1/2 in im sure theres a reason ive done it that way just cant remember. lol
