I'll state first off that my project isn't brewing related. I came across this site while research temperature controllers and I was amazed at the discussions! Far better than electronics forums! However, since my project uses exactly the same equipment, I was hoping that some of my questions could be answered.
I need to use this specific temperature controller (cheap and programmable).
http://www.omega.ca/shop/pptsc.asp?ref=CN7500
There are a few output options:
Relay: SPST, 5A @ 250 Vac resistive
Voltage Pulse: 14 V, 10 to -20% (max 40 mA)
Current: 4 to 20 mA
This controller is different from the Love models (that everyone here seems to like) in that the amp rating on the outputs is low. I need to run a 12A heater that will exceed the 5A rating for the SPST. I am guessing I will have to use SSRs to control the heater. Is that correct?
If so, which output option do I want? Are different SSR available to work with the different outputs?
I hope to wire it all up in a package just like this:
https://www.homebrewtalk.com/f51/just-finished-my-herms-controller-126690/
Also, just to confirm, these controllers are designed to run right off 120V out of the wall? Any suggestions? Here is the terminal diagram for the controller.
Or find on page two here: http://www.omega.com/Manuals/manualpdf/M4704.pdf
Thanks!
