I've never brewed a batch with more then 6% ABV. A recipe suggest I use TWO packs of yeast. Is this just like using a starter? MUST I use two or will a starter do the trick.

What's the recipe? And it's Grand Cru ;)

I think stepping up a starter is a better idea to pitching two packets of liquid yeast. That's just wasteful, in my opinion.

Sorry - I was at a Milwaukee Brewers forum before coming here - Lots of Brew Crew talk LOL

It's a kit from AHS - I like to always start with a kit on a new style and them move from there. I always figured a starter was the trick.

So would this starter be any different then a normal starter? and if so how.

I tried an Ale Asylum Grand Cru and it was awesome. Never had one before and I was hooked (and slightly drunk).

Nope. Just build it up to an appropriate size following the yeast pitching calculator at Mr. Malty.
