Oats, Is there a difference?

Haven't tried it myself, but I am sure it would work. I would not use the quick kind, though - use the regular variety.
 
Actually I am pretty sure brewers flaked oats ARE the quick kind, not the regular. You can use either. Oats are oats, but the regular kind needs to be cooked basically until it is mush. Then added to the mash. If you are doing partial mash or extract I would certainly use quick oats.
