Anybody have experience with WLP004 in an APA? Just washed some this week. I also thought about going with Dry English Ale.

4.00 lb Pale Malt, Maris Otter 2.00 lb Vienna Malt
1.00 lb White Wheat Malt
0.50 lb Caramel/Crystal Malt - 40L

0.50 oz Magnum [14.00 %] (60 min) Hops 28.5 IBU
1.50 oz Cascade [5.50 %] (20 min) Hops 11.3 IBU
1.50 oz Centennial [10.00 %] (20 min) Hops 20.6 IBU

I'm sorry I can;t be more help for your original question on how the yeast works in an APA, but I just racked an irish red ale I had going with this yeast to a keg and the smell was great. Sweet and malty and very reminiscent of irish red ales. I'm sure it would work well for an APA if you like that character in a beer. Your recipe actually looks a lot like an irish red ale, minus a little roasted barley.

Yeah, I did Jamil's Red and that's what I washed this yeast from. Got big ole globs of it in the fridge just begging to be used.

It would make an interesting APA IMO.

BTW, WLP004 rocks! I have had lag times as little as 3 hours with them bad boys!:rockin:
