Thats pretty much it, read a great tutorial on making yeast slants, but the author stated that a fresh slant should stay viable for about 3 months. Thats really not that long if your trying to to have a stockpile of all types of yeast. If you need to build a starter and reslant every three months, it would probably be worth the investment to just start a frozen yeast bank.
