So... If you had an opportunity to by cases of 22s at 25% off.... What would you buy? My local Whole Foods is having an underground sale. Thinking Sculpin if nothing else.

Sent from my mobile device, pardon my brevity.

Which location is this? I may have to check this out if I can somehow get in on the deal.

Not surprising, coffee. I wish coffee actually affected me since I am working on 3 hours of sleep. Good news is that I caught up on my DVR that is more than half full of various concerts recorded and such. :D
Today we expect snow and 26º temps. Yesterday we had 62º and sun. This is the **** head colds are made of.

From last night.

Just got back from our homebrew club meeting at Bluejacket brewpub. Tasted many things, a lot that were very good, actually. Highlight for me was Oldsock's (mad fermentationist) Rum Barrel Sour Brown with Raspberries. Really outstanding. That and Charlie Papazian randomly being there for dinner and then hanging out with us homebrewers for a couple hours.

How is Bluejacket? At first, it sounded like somewhere I wanted to hit next time I was in DC, but I read a review that wasn't complimentary of the food or service and a lot of the beers sound like novelties.

Jasmine tea. So sick of this winter nonsense. I've got beer to ship dag jimmit!

Coffee at the hotel. Lots of road closures around Austin. Taking this opportunity to work from the hotel this morning, maybe all day. We'll see.

New Whole Foods opened recently near this hotel. Big tap selection, but nothing special. They've got some bottles on sale though. My wife might kill me if I bring home more beer right before the move, but I'm pretty tempted to pick up some JK while it's on sale...

Water, oats and a banana before I get this lift in. No beer today.

Really wanna go to the local bar tonight. Fighting hard not to.

That's an impressive Tap List. What's the fight for? My only fight would be the $$$$. Probably drop the same $ in one night at that place than for gallons and gallons of homebrew and homebrew equipment.

26° is like summer here. -18 right now.

DO IT! Just say you left them at the office in a previous week

I will probably do it...they only had Mad Meg, Noble King, and Commercial Suicide. Selection not as good as the downtown WF. Haven't had the latest batch of Commercial Suicide since they switched yeasts, but it was a great beer before.

They also had a sign up saying they had a limited supply of kegs of RU55. Asked the bartender about prices, just out of curiosity. He had no idea what I was talking about, had never heard of Jester King, and after 5 minutes of flipping thru his binder, still couldn't find any record of it. His beard fooled me...

How to say this, Bluejacket has a lot of unrealized potential. Their goal is to have an ever changing lineup of 20+ beers on tap and I think they occasionally tread in the grey area between 'cool experimentation' and serving pilot batches. Some highlights and some lowlights, but word on the street is too many cooks in the kitchen syndrome...their head brewer just left http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/going-out-guide/wp/2014/01/21/bluejacket-and-head-brewer-megan-parisi-part-ways/

I was in TX this summer at a huge liquor store and asked their beer "specialist" if they had any jester king. She had never heard of it! This was in wichita falls mind you, but shouldn't they at least heard of it even if they didn't have it?!

Every liquor store are different. Some "beer" section employees are ignorant on anything they have but you can tell when they have someone that knows about it because they have a better selection and know what about pretty much everything. Its frustrating. If you're in Austin, you should know what Jester King is.

I just woke back up buddy. Took a couple more shots of the vodka while drinking this.., recycled pic, delicious beer.
Edit:my days off are Tuesday and Wednesday so today is my major drinkng day. :drunk:

Perfect choice for a late night(early morning) snack. :D

I've run into that here in Houston. It's surprising how many beer "specialists" in liquor stores know almost nothing about what they're selling.

No school again= no work again ,watching the boys. Homeade keifer protein smoothies so far. Maybe will go to the gym and have them swim to get out of this cabin fever long cold azz winter rut. Been lazy and idle for 3 days, stupid cold weather.

Yeah but it's kind of tough to fault someone when they're being paid $8-12/hr and can't even afford to drink the beer they're selling. Not to mention the thousands of craft beer labels showing up. I haven't heard of a lot of them and I'm on top of this sh**!

That's my rational side; they annoy the hell out of me too :cross:

Having coffee while shopping for brewhouses... We decided a 3bbl brewery with 6bbl fermenters and brites isn't gonna cut it. Found a deal on a complete, turnkey 7bbl brewhouse with a bunch of15bbl fermenters and brites and even a couple 40bbl fermenters that would put us under budget. We go for funding today so fingers crossed!!

Good luck! Sounds like a great buy if you can get the funding lined up before it's gone.

I never have any expectation that I'm talking to an expert when I walk into a store (ever try asking at Sears Hardware or Lowes? On the best of days its a 50-50 chance they have a clue what your talking about!) However, they don't know or have a clue, I expect them to either just plainly say so (rather than act like they have all the answers) or heaven forbid, use the computer that's on the counter they're hiding behind and find the answer.

The Specs in Corpus Christi has the same prob. "Beer specialist" is an idiot. (Last I was there anyway). And how the hell does that logic work? Your only getting paid x amount so that means you dont have to do your job properly???

What's the name of your brewery? Most of my extended family is in Tempe. If you're up and running by the time I come out again I'll have to patronize your new spot.

Ebner Brewing Company. Our website, ebnerbrewing.com is up and getting finished but you can poke around if you are bored. We would be glad to have you! Let me know before you come in if we are open when you come out and I will make sure you get a full tour and some "samples" :mug:

Hell yeah, I'll definitely let you know. Looking like my next Phoenix trip is probably going to be for a funeral, so I'll be looking for some good drink for sure.
