I recently brewed up a very light Blonde ale for the wife, with some sugar added to boost the strength a little (for me )
I used Notty yeast for the first time, but my swamp cooler started off cooler than normal at around 47 degrees F. Being that it's an Ice Cube cooler, it is well insulated, and the temps stayed in the 50s and low 60s throughout the fermentation.
I swear that batch (beeatch?) came out tasting like a lager. No hint of ale fruitiness, but instead more of a breadiness that I remember noticing when I had a super fresh Blonde Bock once at Gordon Biersch. (In fact, this beer tasted all-around ALOT like that one). I ended up drinking alot more of that batch than I intended. I now plan on trying a Mocktoberfest soon with that yeast at those low temps.
Has anyone else experienced this, or was it possibly just a fluke?
