I saw a drawing of a lauter tun in Noonan's "New Lager Brewing" today.
There was a pipe running down under the false bottom. There was not a sparge arm. The text described adding sparge water to this pipe. There didn't appear to be any holes at the top portion.
Later a second drawing showed an arrow into the pipe denoting sparge water flow
How would this sparge?
Wouldn't the sparge water just move over to the spigot?
Wouldn't the upflow stir up the grain bed.
I assumed it was used for clearing the area under the false bottom but is it possible or sound to think that the wort is heavier and the sparge water works it's way up.
It would be a simple way to build a lauter tun, maybe too easy. I do no sparge mini mashing and am ready to move to the next stage
Thanks for the insight
