Well,my first partial mash went into bottles 2 days ago (Friday). It uswed 5lbs of grains & one 3.3lb jug of Breisse gold LME. OG./FG 1.046/1.012. The grain bill consisted of;
4lbs 2 row (don't know if Rahr or Breisse)-midwest cascade pale ale kit
.5lb crystal 10L
.5lb carapils
Ok, now, I want to change the grain bill a bit to reflect my recombinent extract APA/IPA malt recipe,converted to pm. My initial grain bill thoughts;
2lb Rahr 2-row base malt-more diastatic power & needs no d-rest
2lbs of (crisp) Maris otter-gottsta have that wonderful English malt thang-
(it has more color than US 2-row as well)
.5lb crystal 20L
.5lb carapils
3.3lb jug of Breisse gold LME
What do y'all think of this combo? I'm looking for that DFH amber/orange color I nailed with extracts (Cooper's & Munton's,no less!) I came up with for both APA & IPA's as a base. I have a pound of NZ hops that I'd like to use for this one. But what do you think of NZ hops & some kind of spice & zest?
Or maybe use 40L to make a red ale with NZ hops & spice/zest mix? What say you???
