I'm going to do a split boil experiment tomorrow. 5 gal of simcoe pale ale and 5 gal of Jamils evil twin coming from a single mash.

I'm thinking of not mashing the chocolate malt during the mash, and just steeping them in the evil twin batch. That will lighten up the pale ale a bit.

Any issues with that? I mean back in extract days I would be steeping the grains anyway.

For those who are curious, plan is to:
collect 13.5 gal of 1.057 wort in boil kettle
pump 6 gallons back to my hlt
dilute hlt wort down to 1.045 ish
hope and brew I don't screw up the hop schedules

hlt wort --> simcoe pale ale
BK wort --> Jamils evil twin
