I don't really see any advantage to either aside from the smaller one being easier to work with and move if necessary.

If your chamber is properly insulated they should perform pretty similarly.
 
I'm terrified that he's enclosing the fridge in 2x4s, (or so it looks). Exterior of the fridge needs to be open to the air to vent heat, or else it can't cool.

To answer your question though, I use a tiny cube fridge, and I can bring 6 carboys down to 50* without any trouble. Fridge is at least 25 years old, 1.5" styrofoam, and a ****load of tape.
