Multiply all your 5-gal quantities by 0.6.

Sure, it keeps things in proportion. It might be tough measuring the exact quantities, but you'll get close.

Remember to use the entire of package of yeast, though- no need to half that.

I moved from five gallon to three gallon batches and the only difference I noticed is that it's more difficult to maintain my target mash temperatures (but it's easier to reach them in the first place). As a result, I check my temperature every 10-15 minutes instead of every 15-20 minutes.

at what point ought one consider smaller pitching rates? i've got an experiment lined up with 4 different yeasts in 1 gallon batches.
