I am brewing up a Belgian this weekend and had a starter going on Monday on a stir plate. My vial of frozen yeast came out with less than I had anticipated so I figured the 1 liter was not enough and I should step it up. I decided I would step it up Wednesday so it would be all ready for Saturday morning brewing. When I came home last night the original starter was at high krausen. I decided to step it up anyways (by adding another liter of starter, not decanting or anything). Now I fear that the yeast was in feeding mode rather than reproducing and when I added more wort it made no difference in their quantity. Any comments on this? Thanks! :)
